01 Context

Genetic disease analysis is a very complex process that requires a lot of manual work with data. Currently, it can take up to several months until the patient gets his/her diagnosis after submitting the blood test results. AION solves this problem by allowing test labs to run complex analysis much faster.

03 Collaborative Goal

I was invited to design a 0-1 MVP and support the team through the product development cycle, while the product was evolving with UX/UI design and Marketing design.

04 What we did

As a solo (also first) Designer at Nostos Genomics'  AION project, I've designed an MVP from scratch, established Product & UX strategy in collaboration with product manager, created a UI design styleguide and components library, ran usability testing and user interviews, integrated new features on the way while ensuring a consistent UX.  All this was done in a close collaboration with main stakeholders.

05 Main Challenge

The key challenge was designing for scientists in genetic diagnostics. Understanding their complex work was crucial, and a scientist on our team provided invaluable insights and feedback.

06 Solution to Main Challenge

I've collaborated closely with Variant Scientists, main target users of the AION platform. Getting their feedback and insights was necessary for understanding the end user perspective and the context where AION should help them to do their job better.

Research & Exploration

In this first stage, my main goal was to dig deeper into the problem of genetic disease diagnostics and the industry status quo. I have talked to the main stakeholders, and our end users and researched all kinds of information on this topic. After that, I gained a deep understanding of user needs and how our MVP is going to make their life better.

UX & Product Strategy

Based on the User research insights, together with the Product Manager and a Customer Success manager, we created a product vision that included the strategic roadmap, hi - level UX concepts, and a list of features to include in the product. We then formulated requirements and developed a product strategy that would guide our design decisions. User Needs + Business Goals = List of Key Features & Product Strategy.

UX/UI Design

During the UX/UI design stage I developed the advanced UX for the features, defined within the Product Strategy. I have also worked on UI design while ensuring consistency with the brand identity. I also conducted extensive usability testing to ensure that the design was user-friendly and intuitive.

MVP UX/UI optimization

We've been continiously optimizing the MVP by conducting user testing, gathered feedback from end-users and identifying areas for improvement. This feedback allowed us to refine the design and address issues that came up during testing. We also focused on optimizing the platform's performance, including reducing load times and increasing the speed of data analysis. Through ongoing iterations, we were able to deliver a high-quality MVP that met the needs of our users and helped to scale the product and company further.
